Collaboration

Isn't it odd how things tend to happen all at once. Within the space of three days I have been asked to co-write two books. Both are writers whose work I have read and liked their style and like me are as yet, unpublished. Never having done this before I wonder if any of you out there have hints, suggestions or advice on what to watch out for and some of the pitfalls.

Congratulations! It sounds quite promising. No pitfall alerts from me since it's not my area of expertise but my friend Karin who helped write the Sweet Potato Queens Bigass Novel might have some helpful hints. I have a link to her blog in my nav if you're interested...

Hey! I co-write with my CP, December Quinn. I think our critique partner relationship really helped us work well together. We've had remarkably few problems during collaberation, and I've found our co-written words some of the most fun times I"ve had writing this year.

I guess I'd just advise to choose someone whose voice is similar to your and vice versa, and who isn't so attached to their words that you can't offer critique on something if it doesn't jive for you.

Good luck!!

Congrats! I honestly can't even imagine trying to co-write (I always wonder how those husband-wife teams do it)so I have no advice.

Congratulations!!!

About all I can say, having never done this but having read interviews with others who have, is to be clear about which fights to pick. And be more attentive to the end product and its results than to your ego, hard as that is at times.

Really. Congratulations!

Ah, you're back!! Hope you had a good trip.

As for collaborations, I don't know much about that.

Sounds like fun, good luck with that!

Thanks everyone, I'm a newbie in this territory but then again so are they so I'll keep you posted... I just love the different forks in the road you travel when you are a writer. Exciting.

Pitfalls--have them sign over all right to the work if they desert it by being out of contact for a period of a month or more (or whatever period). My cowriter bailed and I had to rerwited half a book. It almost drove me insane.

Congratulations Robn!! That is fantastic news. :) Co-writing a book is a lot of fun. Just make sure to plan everything out ahead of time.
